for those of you who don't surf, this is a manoeuvre known as the "duck dive". it's used when paddling out into the surf. the surfer actually manages to dive both themselves AND their board UNDER the wave, instead of getting pummeled by the actual wave.
surf ninnies like yours truly find this truly awe inspiring.
