ladybug - oct 2007
a picture of a ladybug inspired one of the first real glimpses of ava's developing intellect. shortly after her first birthday, cailin was holding a picture book in her left hand and turning pages with her right hand, when ava began desperately shoving at cailin's left thumb. on this particular page, cailin's left thumb happened to have landed on top of the iconic little ladybug (hidden somewhere in every picture.) within a few days ava was quite competently answering the question "where's the ladybug?" with a solemn jab of a little finger.
i wish i could claim that her halloween costume was a celebration of this occasion, but i actually think i'd already bought it.
this photo by john is another great example of the "telephoto lens and tripod" technique.
