tour de parc

today was ava's preschool's first annual "tour de parc race and flag day picnic". the racer's spanned a wide range of sizes and talents - from two-wheelers sans-training-wheels through trikes and skuuts. ava won the division in which she was the only real contestant. that would the the "most inappropriately dressed for a bike race" division.

ava rounded the course with ian, both of whom were totally oblivious to the whole concept of "race". ava was only interested in the fact that she would get a jelly bean at the half-way point, and ian was pretty much oblivious to his dad's joking taunts that he was getting "beaten by a girl".

big scary ava

"i love you so much ian, i think i might eat you for breakfast!"

this morning we had a lovely trip to the zoo with ava's buddy ian. the san francisco zoo is 3 parts zoo and one part theme park - including a miniature train, a carousel, and these funny mirrors.

ava and ian had an especially charming day. we got through the whole trip with 95% kids walking on their own two feet, only a few very minor whines from ava andone single instance of the word "no" from both kid's combined (and at least 2000 "why?"). we also came up with a genius response to ava's ridiculous (and completely half-hearted) claims along the lines of "but i don't want to see the meerkats" . . . "okay ava, that's fine, just close your eyes!" more zoo pics
