tidepools

despite the recent horrific oil spill, grandma and i were able to take advantage of a negative low tide to show ava the tidepools at the fitzgerald marine preserve in moss beach. it was a beautiful sunny afternoon and both ava and the sea creatures quite co-operative. ava seemed to understand that she could not safely walk herself across the slippery mussel crusted rocks, and docilely accepted my assistance. and the tidepools did not disappoint, teeming with skittering crabs, little minnows, waving anemone and even a few starfish.

back on the pebbly beach, i was somewhat confused as to why ava was obsessively picking up and licking rocks - a phase she has happily mostly grown out of. eventually i realized she was enjoying a little salty treat. after a walk down to the other end of the beach and back, ava got a lift home from grandma.
