while we were in thunder bay, ava, john and i went for a short canoe trip in quetico park. we canoed through nym lake and then portaged over to batchewaung lake to camp at one of quetico's best camp sites, "bunny ears". we lazed around for an idyllic afternoon. it was incredibly hot. hotter then i have ever been in quetico park. we went swimming about 6 times and delayed ava's requests for a campfire until the sun was well good and down for the night.

the next morning we canoed across the lake and did a little exploring of the narrows. after a leisurely lunch and more swimming we hopped in the canoe for our return trip across batchewaung when a thunderstorm rolled in. in 5 minutes we went from blue skies and sunshine to howling wind, dark skies, splotches of rain and impressive waves. for once though, the wind was in our favor and the canoe surfed it's way across the lake. we scrambled across the portage as the rain picked up a bit, got to the other side and... no wind, glassy calm water, no rain. like the whole thing had been a figment of our imagination.

all in all, it was the perfect little canoe trip. full album
