heat wave : day two

the second day of our annual heat wave promised to be nearly as hot as the first. i can honestly say that i enjoyed every moment of it - this is easy to do when you have an absolute guarantee that the sun will be replaced by howling wind and fog in another 48 hours.

at 9:30 am on friday, may 16th, john was still on a bit of a high from the success of his "outdoor bath" scheme - and he decided that we needed to throw a "pool party" that night. for this we needed a) a pool and b) guests. after 30 minutes of calling local hardware stores i finally located a pool, and put it on hold. at lunchtime, john rode halfway across the city on his bike to pick it up. on the guest front, we were very pleased that paulo and his family were available to join in our last minute silliness.

i must say that our pool party made me jealous of everyone who lives somewhere where this is actually a season called "summer" (of course, i can no longer imagine the horror of living somewhere with a toddler with a season called "winter" either). we put those little munchkins in the pool, and they splashed around for an hour and half. happy, happy, happy, happy and requiring no outside intervention other than an occasional toy retrieval and refilling of the water they had dumped out of the pool. although she isn't quite old enough yet to join in the splashing, paulo's little sister carina joined them in the perfectly happy baby behavior part of the evening. see full pool party gallery
