heat wave : day one
grandma brought ava back to san francisco just in time for our annual heat wave. when grandma left on the morning of may 15th, the temperature was rapidly climbing towards the triple digits and ava instantly slumped into her "grandma hangover" phase. this is the short phase where she readjusts to the cold, hard reality of not being sung to or read to every moment that she is awake. she was particularly displeased to be dropped off at daycare, and by noon they called to say that ava probably needed to come home to take a break.
the consequence of her foul temper at daycare was an unscheduled afternoon out with mommy (hmmm . . . maybe i'm sending the wrong message here?). we drove across the bridge to the discovery museum, and then came back to hang out in the shade at the park. ava wore shorts for the first time in about a year, and she looked gosh darn cute.
when john came home from work at 6:30 pm, he was very disappointed that i did not think it was a good idea to take ms. jet lag on a third expedition to the beach ("please mommy, please . .. "), but being the good daddy that he is, he agreed on the compromise . . . an improvised outdoor "pool". we sat in our backyard in our t-shirts and savoured the weather, while ava relaxed and splashed in her tub.
