baby dance

a couple of weeks ago, john put on some music and ava started wiggling her hips in time to the music. we were amused . . . and a little confused. we danced around alot holding ava when she was a miserable little newborn, but the last 9 months or dancing hasn't been a big part of her life.

to our surprise, over the next few days, the dancing was a repeatable phenomenon, even in front of visitors. the mystery was resolved the next week, when i was driving ava and her babysitter, marcela, to the park. marcela said to me "ava really likes to dance" and then fessed up to being ava's dance instructor. i complimented marcela on her teaching skills, and thanked her for all the giggles she'd given us over the past few days.

since then, john's been on a quest to get the dancing on video. unfortunately, ava is still more interested in grabbing the camera then dancing. it was proving to be a very frustrating endeavor. however, when ava finally gave in, she did so in style . . .

before watching the video, remember that this video is taken of a 14.5 month old, who just learned how to walk, and still occasionally falls flat on her face for no apparent reason. just getting through her routine while standing in a slippery sink is an accomplishment all on its own.
